Very strange that the 500 GB Momentus 5.6 5200 rpm that I put in temporarily before did not make the fan spinning at maximum because of the absent thermal sensor. I also know that there exists an OWC adapter for like $40 that you can put between the SATA cable and the HDD that solves this, but I haven't ordered that. I can deal with that using Mac Fan Control, and I hardly think it will be any heat issue for the HDD temperature since there is only one fan on the whole iMac. On the new hard drive it's not there, of course (even if the original is also a Seagate Barracuda). I ran into the thermal sensor/spinning fan issue because the original Apple HDD has a special firmware for the 27" late 2012. Is anyone using a similar computer/configuration and came up with the perfect solution? Or can I get some general super nice tips from you regarding how to setup and run Logic with the hard drives for optimal performance/value? That might of course not be the way for optimal performance.Īnother would be to add external SSD's on the USB 3.0 of course. One way would be to use the spindrive for Logic projects and keep the SSD "clean" with more or less just the OS. What would be the best way to use it with Logic, specifically the SSD/HD's? It's not really affordable to upgrade the SSD since it is a 7 pin proprietary SSD and swapping the 1 TB spindisk would have me to deal with the fan issue/firmware that comes with this computer for the secondary drive. The computer has two Thunderbolts and four USB 3.0.
You can use it in a fusion drive configuration, but I'm not. I have an iMac 27" i7 3.4 Ghz late 2012 with an proprietary SSD 121 GB (!) and a 1 TB seagate 7200 rpm spindrive.
